The Baguio City Planning and Development Office will be providing an orientation on the problem/solution sets that teams may consider for their civic innovations on January 26-28, 2022, 230pm-4pm. Overview
Inspired by the San Francisco Startup-in-Residence Program, NSF Civic Innovation Challenge, and the San Felipe, Zambales Galing Purok Innovation Program, the Baguio City Futures Lab is organizing the Baguio Civic Startup program to unlock the joint innovation capacities of the youth, academe, and civil servants in the Baguio City government and Cordillera regional offices.
Objectives:
engage Baguio City Hall employees, BLISTT municipal staff, SKs, Cordillera regional office staff, professionals, and Baguio students as co-creators of civic innovations to advance Baguio Sustainable Development Goals
2. mobilize school-based research and incubator capacities for ideation, design, prototyping, and testing
3. co-create and evaluate rapid prototypes with partner barangays, Cordillera regional offices, and SKs
FAQs
I am a psychology/nursing/forestry major and don't have courses in startups, where can I learn how to design a startup in my discipline?
A. You can work with your university's incubator or learn online through the webinar series we will organize.
Can I build my thesis or paper into a startup submission?
B. Yes.
Is there a common format for submitting pitches?
A. We will be providing a template adapted from the Business Model Canvas. Submissions will be through recorded videos.
I don't know anything about government programs but I have some ideas for solutions. How can I understand the local government context?
A. You are encouraged to adapt and modify ideas from the Galing Pook governance innovations knowledgebase with over 100 videos on local governance innovations.
I did not learn about Sustainable Development Goals in my coursework. May I still join?
A. Yes. Your thesis or term papers most likely contribute directly or indirectly to a Sustainable Development Goal.
How do I work with my barangay or SK officers?
A. We will be working with the Baguio SK Federation and Alliance of Barangay Captains to onboard them in this initiative.
Does my pitch have to be aligned with the Baguio City Comprehensive Land Use Plan 2013-2023?
A. The Baguio CLUP is a useful reference, and you are encouraged to imagine Baguio 2050 and work on forward-looking solutions. This Bristol City 2050 Plan might help inspire your ideation.
